Dolores Lungaro-Mifsud grew up in a family with an engineering background. She presently lives in Paola, Malta and indulges in ceramics in a professionally organised studio. 

She studied under various ceramic artists, attended various courses, workshops and seminars to help develop her skills and perception in ceramics, metals, glass and precious metals. Over the past few years much of her efforts have been directed to experimentation, introspection and expression. This allowed her to produce works through self taught techniques, deepening her knowledge of the mediums. Respect, understanding and representation of clay continues to become more precise and personal - helping her express her views of life, giving fire to her imagination with the combination of active surfaces, sometimes aggressively tooled and deeply stained. Her practice is rooted in material investigation. She finds her work in a constant state of flux. Processes change and evolve – at times she is rooted in abstract ceramic sculpture and ceramics for the wall, in another she is into geometrical pieces. It is her intention to create works that, in relation to each other, seem as dichotomous as they are connected. Although materials and processes may seem different, they find connection through aesthetics and textural repetition. Each piece is a subtle collaboration of artistry, chemistry and fire. Her engineering background has proven to be invaluable in the mounting and structural design of her sculptures, wall pieces and raku firings.

In 2011 she was unanimously awarded 1st prize in the 10th National Art Exhibition and Competition, Malta Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce. In 2012 her sculpture ‘Anima Nuda’ was featured as artwork for the album ‘Phil’s Feelings’ by Italian jazz artists Alessandro Filippig Quartet. In 2013 her sculpture ‘Duomo’ was exhibited in Austria as part of an international juried exhibition 8th International Biannual of Ceramics, Kapfenberg. In 2014 she was commission by the President of Malta to put up one of the first 12 permanent sculptures in the Verdala Palace Sculpture Garden. She is co-founder and ex vice president of the Malta Raku Association and committee member of the Art discussion Group Malta.
